Blue Steel and Old School Skill - Weihrauch HW50 75th Anniversary Competition Winners

There are two kinds of airgun shooters in the world.
The first group loves modern PCP rifles. Regulators, carbon bottles, side levers that feel like they belong on expensive machinery, and enough adjustment knobs to make a Formula 1 engineer feel at home.
The second group looks at all that, sips their tea, and calmly reaches for a spring rifle.
No tanks. No hoses. No gauges. Just cock, load, and shoot.
Which explains why the Weihrauch HW50 75th Anniversary Limited Edition caused a rather noticeable influx of new AAR members. Apparently, quite a few of you prefer your air rifles the traditional way. Fair enough.
And frankly, if you are going to pick a springer, you could do a lot worse than this rather gorgeous blue-stocked celebration piece.
The Rifle That Started the Rush
The HW50 has always been one of those rifles that quietly earns respect. Not flashy, not oversized, just beautifully balanced and engineered the way Weihrauch tend to engineer things. Which is to say, properly.
This 75th Anniversary edition takes that familiar platform and gives it a rather striking target-style blue stock, turning an already respected spring air rifle into something that looks like it belongs in a display cabinet. Or preferably on a range producing very tight groups.
It is a rifle that celebrates not only the HW50 platform itself, but the broader tradition of spring-powered airguns that many shooters still swear by.
And judging by the entries in this competition, that tradition is very much alive.
The Question That Wasn’t As Simple As It Looked
The competition question seemed easy enough at first glance:
As of 2026, how old is Weihrauch?
Now, a quick Google search would reveal that Weihrauch was established in 1899. A quick bit of maths later and you would have the answer.
But of course we could not leave it that simple.
Because sitting right there in the competition was a big shiny red herring. The rifle itself celebrates the 75th anniversary of the HW50, and it launched last year. Which meant a surprising number of people assumed the answer might be something like 76.
Others went in a completely different direction and landed on 97.
Both understandable. Both are completely wrong.
Because the question was about Weihrauch the company, not the rifle.
And as of 2026, that makes the German manufacturer a very respectable 127 years old.
Not bad for a company still producing some of the finest spring air rifles in the world.
Time for the Wheel of Destiny
Quite a few of you got the correct answer, which means it was time once again for the random name picker. The wheel of destiny. The digital drum of fate. Or whatever we decided to call it this week.
After letting chance do its thing, here is the final podium.
