Like it or not Non lead/lead free/ non tox.. call it what you will. , its going to happen.
22 years ago i distinctly remember looking at the on paper ballistics of steel shot and thinking it was all over, i remember buying the first factory offerings and i must say they were concerning to say the least. But Once reloaded y oneself correctly and as Some American and improved euro/ uk factory ammo filtered through the gloom, humble steel was in no way as bad in the field as its on paper ballistics initially suggested it would be. The rest is history and Big steel is doing the deed on foreshores throughout the world today on geese and ducks, and wildfowlers are still going about their business despite non lead.
History lesson over and here we are two decades latter looking at a total ban if not immediately in some sectors of sport certainly eventually.. OK we got the loby trajectory etc and a
My point to all this. The way i see it is rather dismal for air rifles certainly sub 12ftlbs. and though the .177 given the lighter pellets of typical non lead are faster initially , are indeed lighter and downrange i am not sure the lighter .177s will have the ft lbs on target on anything but very very close rats etc. The story looks ON PAPER potentially a shade better for the >22s and again the .25 looks even better still . OR IS IT?
Now quite how you might go about putting together a video on the pros and cons of the various calibers and non lead pellets i have no idea. But this matter is not going away not ever, and embracing non lead and some practical fact based education will go a long way to smoothing the inevitable transition to non lead. And please may i be so bold as to suggest it may as well come from AAR on air as anybody else.
So lots of words here, and i admit to lighting the blue touch paper and retiring. However i imagine you are of the opinion its coming, and inquiring minds need to know.
