Well after deciding that my FFP (First Focal Plane) scope reticule had become annoying as the magnification I used increased I decided to hunt for a replacement. I have only had this MTC F1 4-16x50 scope for just over a year and always preferred FFP scopes having previously owned a Falcon.
I have plenty of time on my hands over lockdown so spent time on the various forums and YouTube channels to seek some advice as to a suitable FFP scope with a decent reticule, however I was enlightened as to the advantages of a fixed magnification by 'Cyclops' who I have always respected for his promotion of FFP over SFP scopes. His channel deals mainly with scopes and he is very knowledeable as well as entertaining, but this revalation about fixed mag. and also his recommendation of the SWFA scope threw mw a curved ball.
As a .177 sub 12 airgun shooter (Wiehrauch HW110) I used my scope mainly on 9-12 times as the reticule beyond that became an annoyance. However it made sense after listening to Cyclops and many others too who used a fixed mag as you always have the same field of view and your brain learns the sight picture, one less knob to fiddle with and confuse my ageing brain. My new scope is 12x42 with a 30mm tube, rear focus and a beautifully constructed ret that won't alter, I can now take out my gun, have a crystal clear sight picture with sufficient mag to shoot anything at my local ranges @ 80yds.
Never heard of a SWFA scope? Neither had I but having searched and watched plenty of YouTubers extoling their virtues decided they were the way to go. Next what magnification as they manufacture fixed mag scopes from 6x to 20x, the former too small for distance, the latter too large for closer work. SWFA SS scopes are manufactured to military grade tolerances for the US Navy and come with a lifetime warranty. Firearms shooters use these 12x scopes for up to 1000yds! Do the research.
Last but not least the online retail company tacticalscopes.co.uk was the company I purchased from. Excellent communication answering any questions, sending tracking and with prices within my budget, plus free carrier delivery within 48 hours of purchase.
Not considered fixed magnification? Want a robust, clear, well manufactured item at a reasonable price? I'm extremely happy with my SWFA scope, consider all options before you purchase yours.
