Other than shooting rats along the river some 40 years ago, I've never really considered Airgunning (is that a thing?) as a hobby, then I saw an AAR review of the lever action Umarex Legends and I wanted one; the gun that every kid would have happily sold his soul for back in the day.
Anyway, I've found there's a gun club almost on my door step so equally for the social side as well as the shooting holes in things experience, I'm going to join.
I have two immediate questions I would be grateful if somebody could answer.
I know a gun should be securely stored unloaded, but is it OK to leave a fully/partially charged CO2 cylinder in the gun? I'm guessing that the gas eventually leaks away depending on the condition of gun/seals etc. But does it cause problems for the mechanism being stored in this condition?
Relating to pellets; I noticed that Andy often mentions JSB, so with my new gun I went on to select a tin of JSB pellets, and the confusion started.
As an example...
JSB Match Diablo 8.44 grains, .177 (4.50)
JSB Match Diablo 8.44 grains, .177 (4.51)
JSB Match Diablo 8.44 grains, .177 (4.52)
JSB Match Diablo 8.44 grains, .177 (4.53)
What do the (4.50), (4.51) etc numbers mean ?
Any help much appreciated.
Joe
Gas will probably leak from every gun. But if you put a drop silicone oil on the business end of the gas cartridge, that will extend the life of the cartridge seals - and the gun. As far as pellets go, it's anyone's guess. Most guns (and their barrels) are fractionally different - so what works in one might not in another.
Best suggestion for any air gun is buy sample packs - and find the ones which work best with your own.
